Holographic storage?
InPhase & Maxell have Holographic storage disks that are about ready for production... I believe that the article I read said sometime this year (2006 that is). The first disks supposedly will be 300GB, and cost around $100. They are saying w/i a few years the storage capacity will be over 1 TB on a disk.
Apparently they have a data throughput rate of 160MB/sec. So, i was wondering, any buzz about this at DV Expo? How long until we have holographic arrays that are cheaper than SCSI by a long shot, not just for storage, but also archiving? Wonder if either InPhase or Maxell will be showing some of this stuff at NAB '06? Alex F |
