Converting 1080i to 720p: can it be done?

I'm wondering if it's possible to convert the 1080i signal of an FX1/Z1u to the 720p standard of a JVC HD100? Perhaps dubbing the 1080i signal to a JVC HD100 via firewire? Or convert it in the timeline?

It would involve two things. De-interlace and downsample. Just choose your software.
