Live HD-macro, storage not needed

Hello,
I'm looking for information and advice regarding the use of macro HD-video, in particular available options for cameras.

For a permanent educative exposition I want to show some small mineral crystals from very close and be able to move the camera around them, so I'm looking for a not too large camera that can be connected to a HD-screen, it does not need a record function to store the video (if that in fact makes it cheaper or more compact)
I think that zoom and focus are better controlled manually for this purpose (if that in fact is cheaper)?

I've looked through consumer camcorders and pocket cameras, some have a direct HDMI port, but I'm not always sure that they are the right tool for the job. My main consideration is price, anything that can shoot macro in HD is an option I would want to look into.

I would be grateful if someone with experience with this topic could reply with some suggestions or advice.
