What is the chance of Getting 50mbps AVCHC?

As an Edius user, I am looking forward to the upcoming release which will allow realtime native ACVHD editing.

Since the format looks like it will stay around, what are the chances of a higher mbps number?

Who would create this? Each camera company or is their a source for AVCHD that is a consortium?

Seems like a firmware could upgrade exisiting cameras as the datarate is not very taxing.

It is a nice codec as it is though but there is always room for improvement.

AVC-Intra is already out there. AVC with only I-frames--kinda like I-frame mpeg. Panasonic is talking about going up to 200mps.

With the quality of the hmc150's 21mps, I doubt there is much quality to squeeze from 50+

Who knows what the future will bring!

AVCHD is a branded subset of the Mpeg4/h.264/AVC specification. The Canon 5D/7D are already using higher bitrates. The 7D in particular is using about 48Mbps. So you don't have to hope for it. It's already here. Just buy a 7D.

...and make sure your computer is up to it! ;)

I don't mind about the I-frames, and 50mbps AVC Intra is not full raster.

A 35mbps 4:2:2 variant would be nice while still allowing the SDHC cards as a firmware upgrade to the HMC-150.

I have the 5D/7D for still work and have just started testing for video. The files show up as mpeg-4.

I just wonderd if the AVCHD will ever go higher as AVCHD or will it need to be called something else like mpeg-4.

I get spoiled witht the Nano flash and want everything to be high bitrate!
