HDV camera – now or later?
I am contemplating the purchase of the Sony FX-1 and would like opinions from knowledgeable people if they think this (or current comparable) camera will be the best investment for HD video in the $3,000-4,000 range for the “foreseeable” future.
I can wait another year or so if there will be a significantly better HD technology released in a similar price range but if not, I will take the plunge now. What does your crystal ball say? Thank you! |

All I can offer is the conventional wisdom. You said you could wait another year or so. In that case, why wouldn't you? It's hard to believe that something bigger/faster/cheaper/better/cooler won't be available a year from now.
On the other hand, if you need it - or just want it - now and if you can afford it, then go ahead and buy one :-) |

To add to conventional wisdom:
If you're using it professionally, it should pay for itself rather quickly (within a few jobs), so if something else comes out in a year or two... you should be able to afford. Also, wait at least a week for NAB... you never know what surprises are in store... |
