HDDVD-B-ray, Whats the waiting for
Sorry if it's ignorant of me, but if this HDDVD and Blue ray format is already "here" I mean devoloped or invented, whats the waiting for? Why the companies still do not sell this product? Does it has to be just one exclusive format? Anyone knows?

MY opinion is that it's not very easy in the first place to just introduce a complete new medium.
And the thing is, you have the 2 mediums, what's very uncomfortable for the consumer. I read a news report that Sony proposed to the other companies to talk and discuss to bring out ONE medium, instead of two, because it's not good for the consumer. To date I still don't know if the other companies responded, but I think it was a very good choice from them to propose it. But the thing is, both manufacturers spended lots of many to develop those new media, and none of them is really keen to just give all that money up. Allthough I hope they realise that 2 formats for just home movies or home entertainment isn't good, and one will probably fail, exept if they work together. Another thing: the dvd sales or now really beginning to reach a high point. People have finally accepted dvd, and now they would come up and say: great you believed in dvd, but now we already have a new medium! Ow, and not only one, but two! I just don't think it's that easy, but that's my opinion. |

Mathieu I guess you are right. But even with two different kind of products I believe there is market, take for example the games, there is a Playstation, Gamecube, Xbox, PS2, the portables and the cheapies and they are all selling there games... But thats just the way I see it.

They're still negotiating the whole thing. Last I saw, the blu-ray camp had approached the idea of blending the standards together, instead of having a format war. HD-DVD is supposed to be on the market in the next six months, with blu-ray following next year. If they were somehow to combine them into one product, I'm sure that would introduce delays, but I think it'd be the best of all possible worlds.
