Blackmagic Capture Issue
Hi All.
I have just started to capture HDV. No problem via Final Cut to my MacPro. I have also had no problem using my Blackmagic Decklink HD Extreme card to power my monitor using SD. I just wanted to capture HDV as ProRes 422, so I hooked up the HVRM15U deck via the component out to the inputs on the breakout cable for the Decklink card; I hooked up the audio from the deck to the card. When I went to log and capture, I got the "no communication" message. My questions: Am I missing something obvious? Is there some deck control link I am missing? Please let me know.

Still Trying
I am going to call BlackMagic tomorrow and see what they say.
I wonder if this deck only does time code via firewire? I am hoping to make this work. Nobody here has any experience with this issue?

Timecode is done via the RS422 control, which the hvr 15 does not have an output for. You'll have to step up to the HVR 1500 for that.. and its quite a big jump.
Your best way to get things going if you really want to use prores is to turn the deck control setting to 'non-controlable' and just hit play on the deck and capture in Final Cut. Final cut will ignore Timecode completely and you'll have signal coming out the YUV ports. If timecode is important to you then you might have to just stick with HDV via Firewire. |
