Need help! Firestore 80 GB & Sony HDR-X1
Hi,
I have a few questions. I take it that you can record using the new HD firestore from the Sony HDR-FX1? Also can you record uncompressed HD footage from the Sony to the Firestore and if so how fast would an 80 GB drive fill up? I heard that some uncompressed high def footage can be up to 9 GB per minute! Hope someone see this & helps me out! Many thanks! Turlough |

Hi Turlough,
Welcome to the Forum. I know someone will correct me if I am wrong - but I don't think that the FS-4 HD can capture uncompressed HD. It captures HD as HDV in a .m2t format which is a lossy mpeg2 compression. The advantage to this is that the HDV media only takes up about as much storage space as DV does, which would make it possible to record around five hours of footage with the 80 GB FS-4 in HDV. |

If it captures m2t clips- doesn't that mean it has to be transcoded for use with Final Cut? I'm guessing the Firestore can't store the clips as native HDV clips- can it?
