Firestore to Avid quirk

I'm using my FireStore with Avid Xpress Pro, although this seems to occur with Xpress DV as well. I copy a day's worth of OMF files to my MediaFiles folder, start Avid and inport the clips into a bin. I can edit to my heart's content with these files. Then, when I try to figure out which one of the originally imported OMF files I didn't actually use in my timeline, I can't. I try the Media Tool, and it sees none of the FireStore files as being media assigned to that particular project. Instead, it shows an individual project for every single OMF file that was copied to the MediaFiles folder from the FireStore, and the projects are named after each of the files. When I select the correct drive and project name and do a search for media belonging to the project, it shows 0 files. Same thing in MediaMover...none of the FireStore OMF files are registered to the project...only to a project named after each file. Unless someone knows a way to detect which of these files belong to the project, media management will be a nightmare, and nullify any time saved by using the FireStore instead of tape. It will take no time at all to fill my media drives with FireStore OMF files that I don't even use in a project but can't get rid of for fear of losing the media I actually HAVE used.

What happens if you put a media file that you captured through
other methods on the firestore drive (through windows explorer)
and access that? This to determine if it is actually the files them-
selves or access to the drive. You can also do the experiment
the otherway around by copying some files to your internal
harddisk. If you start a new project with those files, what happens?
