Firestore Harddrives : Hitachi Travelstar
HI ,
searching the web I found a picture of a dismanteled FS100 - it runs a Hitachi Travelstar 100GB 5400rpm 2,5" drive inside. The drive is directly placed (screwed?) in the box - there are no special parts used to avoid shock by heavy movements... Considering this I visited Hitachis Website and found pdf files saying Shock resistant 300G /2ms (in operation) 1000G /1ms (parked) After I lost the complete FAT32 TOC on a 3,5" harddrive some days ago (due to very shaky transportation) I wonder if any FS User ever had problems with shocked 2,5" drives in the firestore. I do a lot of handheld work - and would always have "a bad feeling" running around with a running ... Any "bad" experience? Are you taking additional precautions? Thanks ULI _____________________________ EDIT: For "safe recording" junkies (like me) I just found Seagate producing 2,5" harddrives for military, space or any other ruggedized operations. Looks like the drives are extreme resistant against temperature (op within -20° to 75° Celsius, long shock resistance, very good vibration resistance etc.). No idea what the price is...
