Can't set external Scratch disk

I have a 2GHz Intel Core Duo Mac, 1.5Gb mem
External USB drive
External Lacie FW drive (FW400)
Final Cut Express 3.5

I cant set the Lacie as the external Scratch disk, my camera is not recognised
Canon DM XM2, and I can't capture. Both the USB and Internal drives work perfect.

Any ideas on how to over come this problem. If I have to capture to my internal HD how do I go about copying the files over to the Lacie and which ones do I copy.

Thanks

Steve

No idea how to fix the actual problem you've got re scratch disk but I have at times, in the field, captured to the boot drive of my Mac Book Pro and later copied to an external drive. Just drag and drop as you would any other file, then trash the original. You'll have to reconnect the file to FCP later. I would do all of this copying and trashing with FCP closed.

As for your camera not being recognized. I have an XH A1 which rarely gets recognized upon opening FCP. When I need to, I turn the camera to camera mode, open log and capture, the camera is then seen by the software and I switch to VCR mode. Maybe that'll will work for you.

Of course you might also have a defective fw port on either the camera or computer or a bad fw cable

good luck

forgot to say, the only file you'll to copy to the external drive is the actual media file itself

Scratch Disk

Thanks for the reply Jase. The problem I have is that I can't capture over Fire Wire to the Lacie drive, the camera isn't recognised. I can capture over FW with out problems to both the USBdrive and Internal drives.
Maybe its because the Lacie drive fw port and the camera fw port share the same bus.
I think as you suggest, I'll just capture to the internal drive and copy the files over to the Lacie HD and work on them from there.

Thanks

Steve
