Clip Speed and Reversing Problem in FCP 5.1.2

So I've noticed a problem since upgrading the various G5 towers in our office to FCP 5.1.2... Whenever we slow a clip down beyond a certain speed or do any negative speed at all (including just checking the reverse box), it renders out the clip as a still of the first frame, instead of doing the actual speed adjustment.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what's the fix??
