External HD is running slow?
I am using a LaCie external 500gig FW800 for editing and have had it for about 1 year and have done many multi cam edits in the past. And have never had a prob with it keeping up in the past. But now it is not able to keep up it will go for about 3-4 sec and start to drop frames/ freeze up and I have to stop and wait a couple of seconds. Yes the drive is almost completly full. But I also have an identical with the same about of info on it and it has no probs at all.
So I am wondering if I need to defrag it or something to that effect, and if so how do I go about doing that. I have ran Disk Warror on it and that has not helped it at all so. Any suggestions would be greatly apperciated!! One more thing I can not lose the files on this HD so if that is going to happen then please let me know that before I do that. Thanks again so much. If you can afford another 500GB drive then an easy solution would be copying all of your files to it. That should have the effect of defragmenting the drive without any risk of losing your original files.
