Log and capture question
Newb questions from a rookie... I just got a firewire 800 drive to use with a Macbook Pro and the latest version of FCP. Set everything up to log and capture video and sound from a Canon XHA1-- firewire from camera to computer, firewire 800 from computer to hd, firewire drive set as scratch disc. Decided to do 'capture now' and get the whole tape because I have to use the camera as a deck and didn't want to be shuttling back and forth. Video captured perfectly but there's no audio-- are there settings I have to set [in FCP or camera] before capture to get the audio? When I captured directly to the laptop (before I got the external hd) both video and audio were being captured. Thanks!

When you open the Capture window, click on the 2nd tab to make sure Audio Capture is turned on. That's the only thing I can think of.

Thanks Dave. I ended up capturing to the laptop hardrive successfully, and since that worked I decided to try one more time with the fw drive and guess what? It worked. Didn't change any settings... go figure.
