FCP/Quicktime problem in 10.4.8 (Intel) - ?
Experiencing a Quicktime problem
This is occurring in a new MacPro Tower running totally updated software (although not the ‘universal version’ yet). So we are in Final Cut Pro 5.0: Capture runs without showing the footage - it is audio only. The preview screen is greyed out. When the same clips (imported through FCP 5.0) are opened in FCP 5.0, they are fine: It is only the preview — which involves Quicktime — that is not working. Leaving aside FCP: If we open a Quicktime cut that was imported through FCP, it plays sound only: Video is blank, totally white. Any clue what could be causing this?

Try reinstalling Quicktime, even if you have the latest version, manually download it and reinstall.

As far as I know, you really need 5.1 for FCP to work "properly" on a Intel-based Mac. I'd imagine 5.0 will cause you heaps of grief and be a lot slower...
