FCP 4.5 doesn't recognize Sony HC3
I am trying to capture some HDV footage from a friends Sony HC3 and my FCP 4.5 software does not recognize the camera. My Power Mac G5 does recogzine the camera connected through firewire. What can I do to fix this issue. I also try playing the HDV tape on my DSR-11 and it won't play.
Thanks for the help. Miguel www.creativeimedia.com |

The reason FCP isn't seeing your camera is that FCP 4.5 isn't compatible with HDV. That feature was introduced in FCP 5. There were some third party ways to edit HDV then, but they really don't make much sense anymore IMO.
I think you will need to upgrade to FCP 5.x if you want to edit HDV. Otherwise you should be able to capture and edit your footage if you set your camera for regular DV mode, but of course then you won't be working in hi def. The DSR-11 also isn't going to be of any use for HDV, it's strictly a DV deck. Even though the tapes are the same and the firewire ports are the same, the data is in a completely different format and it won't make any sense to a DV tape deck or software which doesn't support HDV. |
