superdrive question
Hello
I have a G4 with a pioner superdrive. A while back apple had an updater so that you use 8x DVD-R with the older pioneer burners. I can't find an updater for 16x media and it is getting difficult finding older 8x DVD-R media in stores. Any info or help would be appreciated. Many thanks! Aldo |

Hey Aldo,
Don’t know anything about the update, but here are a couple options. Order media from the internet (have to pay shipping) Buy the 16x media from the store which should be backwards compatible, it will just burn at 8x not 16. (the extra money spent would probably be the same as having to pay for shipping) I’m sure someone will let you know officially, but from the sound of it a firmware upgrade to 8x would be the limit. I wouldn’t hold you breath for another jump to 16x. |

I went through something similar. I replaced my G4's orgiginal Superdrive with a Plextor burner. That's one option you have.
I also bought a Mac-Mini. I've been using 8x with it, since that what it is. I had to get some DVD-R fast and the only thing available was 16x. I remember all the problems that could happen without updates from my G4 days and searched high and low for updates, but none showed up. I bit the bullet and gave it a try and the Mac-mini did well with the 16x. I'm wondering if all the new discs are truly getting backwards compatible with the older burners without needing updates.
