Quicktime 7.0.4 Update - Caution to all Pro users!!!

I was about to update to 7.0.4 before i noticed this in the update description:

"Important Notice to QuickTime Pro Users
Installation of QuickTime 7 will disable the QuickTime Pro functionality in prior versions of QuickTime, such as QuickTime 5 or QuickTime 6. If you proceed with this installation, you must purchase a new QuickTime 7 Pro key to regain QuickTime Pro functionality. After installation, visit www.apple.com/quicktime to purchase a QuickTime 7 Pro key."

If you have in fact updated without knowing, you can downgrade back to 7.0.1 by downloading the reinstaller here:

Thanks for the warning, it bears repeating every now and then. However this is really old news. Updating to any version of QT7 will disable previous QT pro versions. There's some info about this in one of our "stickies" - http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=46030

BTW when you say "pro users" that implies (to me) Apple's "Pro Apps," which include Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Motion, etc. If you're running the latest version of these then you have no choice but to upgrade to QT7 since it's required. However QT7 Pro will automatically be installed along with the software package.

If you're running an earlier version of FCP then there are some issues related to Tiger and QT7 which have been discussed here in the past. It can be done in most cases, but may involve some troubleshooting. Personally, if I was on an older version of FCP I wouldn't update my machine to Tiger or QT7, but that's just me...

I've actually been running qt 7.0.3 for awhile. Apparently, only the 7.0.4 update will disable standalone pro functions, all the othe updates will leave my quicktime alone.

for instance, initially i was running fcp 5.0.4 with qt 7.0.3 (upgraded to pro by fcp). i installed the 7.0.4 update and it disabled standalone pro functions for qt. i reinstalled 7.0.1 then updated to 7.0.3 only, and it restored my pro functions.

now im wondering what makes the 7.0.4 update so special. maybe the new imovie, idvd, and iweb features?

Look at that again:

"Installation of QuickTime 7 will disable the QuickTime Pro functionality in prior versions of QuickTime, such as QuickTime 5 or QuickTime 6."

If you go from QT 5 or 6 to QT 7, yes, you lose your pro key. This has been true for quite a while. You will NOT lose your pro key, however, if you go from 7.0.1 or 7.0.3 to 7.0.4. Decimal increases do not require a new pro key.

I did the update and still have full pro functionality.

I updated to 7.0.4 but my pro functions are still there. I have FCP Studio and maybe that has something to do with it.
