A problem creating white flashes in FCP

Hi guys and season's greetings

I've created a couple of white flashes (ie the screen bleaches to white very quickly and then disappears) in FCP 4 by putting a white colour matte on 4 frames of a track and then setting the opacity of the matte from 0% to 100% over the 4 frames.

When I scrub through it looks perfect but when I hit play the flash is stripey... Any ideas how I can fix this? Thanks.

Or is this just because I'm watching on a monitor... (the final thing is intended for viewing on a TV screen)...?
