Here's Apple's press release:
http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2005/jun/06intel.html LOTS has been written on the Intel switch. The latest buzz is that they *might* introduce an Intel-based Mac Mini in January, and it *might* also serve as a home entertainment hub/digital video recorder: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=54366 I would expect laptops to make the transition next, and desktops to be last - maybe a year from now. See the following: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=45738 http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=45935 Or just type "apple intel mac" into Google and read for days... :-) None of this would stop me getting a new G5 now if you need it. The new models look good and Apple's software is great. If you want to get one of the new Intel desktop machines, and you can wait a year then that might make sense. But I would be careful about buying the first generation of any machine from Apple with such a radical new design.... BTW, Welcome to DVinfo Matt! As it so happens, I just returned from Costa Mesa a few days ago where I did the scenery for Opera Pacific's "Tosca." Beautiful part of the country, and beautiful weather! |
