FCP Capture/Sequence presets for 30p DV: QT scan mode, field dominance
Hello-
I'm capturing 30p DV shot with an XL2 in FCP 4.5 (footage is intended for TV). In the advanced section of the Quicktime Video Settings in the capture preset editor, there's an interlaced/progressive option. Which is best? Also, in the sequence preset editor, what is the appropriate field dominance setting? Thanks for your help |

I'm assuming that you have an NTSC camera, which means you should just use the DV NTSC 48 kHz preset. NTSC DV cameras record interlaced video with the lower field first/dominant. The only way you'll get progressive footage out of them is by removing fields in post with inverse telecine or using "remove advanced pulldown." Unless you record using advanced pulldown the you should just use the DV NTSC preset for DV NTSC footage.
