New G5 and HDV

Can a G5 iMac either 1.9GHz or 2.1GHz with 1.5 GB ram and a 250 GB hard drive handle HDV?

What happens after you edit then burn it to the superdrive? Does it just convert to to DV?

I guess either the Sony Z1U or the new HDV Canon will work with a Mac
