G5/FCP5/ADS Pyro troubles
ok. here's the deal:
i put together a lab for video editing. 15 workstations. G5 dual 2.3 ghz, 2GB ram tiger, fcp5 studio. sony ntsc monitors with ads pyro boxes to provide the fw-ntsc conversion for realtime ntsc preview. sometimes folks capture at the dedicated capture station, which is connected to a dsr-11 dv deck. other times they capture at the other workstations, using their own cameras as decks. everybody supplies their own fw drives for storing media. fw harddrive is connected to fw800 port on back of mac with a fw400-800 cable. ads pyro is connected to the fw400 port on back of mac via 6-6 pin fw400 cable. camcorder is connected to front of pyro box via 4-4pin cable. video preview is fine. timeline plays out to the ntsc monitor, etc. the trouble starts when i try to capture. i get device control and timecode, but no video or audio. i've tried every possible configuration known to man- camera connected directly to mac, camera daisy-chained to hard drive, etc. i'm intimately familiar with fcp's myriad settings, and i've set everything up as best i know how. ads tech support is as helpful as the proverbial tits on a bull. they asked me to try imovie, which i did, and everthing worked fine. i got realtime video preview, device control, and capture worked. once they knew that it worked with imovie, ads figured it aint their problem. trouble is, this isn't kindergarten or soccer-mom camp, and we're using final cut here. any ideas? thanks in advance. |

This is a now all-too-common problem with QuickTime 7. There is a sticky at the top of this forum and on the Final Cut Pro forum at Apple Discussions that explains what to do in great detail.
