dvd authoring- tile safe area issue

A client of mine has commented that some of the footage is appearing off screen. At this stage I’m not sure how much is running off screen (he is going to send me a snap shot).

I edited in FCP with a pro res timeline set @ (1440 x 1080 HD 16:9)

Once complete I compressed using bitvice set @ SD 720 x 567 Aspect 16:9 and I didn’t force letter/pillar boxing

Finally I authored in DVD studio pro res 720 x 576i and use 16:9 Pan scan & letter box option

I’ve used this method before and never had any complaints.. the client is view the DVD on wide screen in 16:9 is there something I’m missing…would the Pan Scan be causing and issue?

Has anyone any recommendations before I re-issue the DVD?

First off, if you are not programming pan and scan into the DVD just pick letterbox. While most new TV sets will show 16:9 DVDs in widescreen some people don't have equipment that will properly switch to widescreen from 4:3 or they have their equipment set up wrong. Choosing pan and scan and not programming it just leaves the image at the center of the screen in 4:3.

Ask the client to check on the aspect ratio of the TV, because sometimes it may be the one that causes the problem.

Even at this late date it's still a good practice to make your titles 4x3 safe. You never know who's watching on their grandmother's TV.
