How to Paste on the 2nd track, in FCP 4.5?

Hi,
When you copy a video from track #1 (Sequence #1), then paste it into Sequence #2, it will be pasted on track #1 of the sequence (makes sense).

But I need to paste it on a different track (say V2 or V3). How do you I do that?

Just use the auto select buttons. They are those little black buttons by each track. Just disable all of them except the track you want to paste to. This article explains it better. http://larryjordan.biz/articles/lj_auto_select.html

A quick way to select just the track you want is to option-click the auto-slect button. SOmetimes I have to also move the track selector tab thing to get it to paste right (this migh just be for audio). If you get a stubborn one, create a Scratch sequence and paste it in there. THen, slide it to the track you want it and copy/paste it from the new track into your main sequence.

hhmm. I turned off the auto-select for V1 and pasted; it pasted on V2. All good.

Now, I went and copied something (from a different sequence), and pasted it on the 1st sequence (Auto-select is still turned off for V1), but it pasted on V1 !!! I have to turn on/off the auto-select for V1 again so it pastes on V2. Is this common ?!
