Raid and HDV

Render times with HDV can be painfully slow. Since I don't have the resources to have a bunch of G5's rendering away at my creative follies, I'm wondering if building a raid configuration for my hard drives will improve render and encoding times. I figured I would buy at least one more 250 gig drive.

dual 1.8, 2 gig RAM
3x 7200rpm HDD's, 80, 160, 250 gig's
FCS, Sony HVR-Z1U

In regards to rendering I think the proc is your biggest bottle neck. I don't think upgrading the throughput of your HDDs will do much, if anything, to lessen your render times.
