Assign Razor Blade CUT to a Key?
Can someone please tell me how to add a keyboard shortcut for a razor blade cut in FCP? I want to make the "/" key or the "P" key a razor blade cut key for FCP. I know I can use ctrl-v, but I just want to remap / assign / program a key for making a cut.
I read that I need to pull up the "button bars list"?, or "keyboard layout customization"? and add it to the keyboard, but I have no idea how to do this or where this is located. |

Keyboard command for Blade is B. To customize go to tools and keyboard layout.

Hey Rickey, the B key just chooses the razor tool. It doesn't cut anything. You still have to click your mouse to actually cut.
I think what I'm looking for is "Add Edit" maybe. |

There's already a shortcut for that, Control-V.
If you want to assign that to some other key, you need to remap the keyboard. Look for keyboard layouts in the TOOLS menu. |

Re: Assign Razor Blade CUT to a Key?
As stated below, go to Tools>Keyboard Layout>Customize
Unlock it by clicking the padlock bottom left. Then type "add edit" into the search bar top right. Click on the resulting command and then press the key that you want to assign it to. Then save the keyboard layout so that you can revert back to it. I find FCP sometimes resets the keyboard layout when it crashes or another edit changes the setttings. I edit a lot straight on the timeline and use this command more than anything else. I have an odd editing style that baffles other editors but it is very speedy. I have "add edit" assigned to "v" and "forward delete" to "d," for me that makes a handy combo for chopping up rushes and arranging a rough edit.

Re: Assign Razor Blade CUT to a Key?
Control-V, awesome! That will save a few steps.
The (dumb) way I've been doing this is select blade tool, cut, cut, select selection tool, select clip I want out, delete. Thanks for that. |
