Do you mean do you need to convert every clip to DVCPro HD? Yes.

i understand that but every time i put a transition on the clip or make an adjustment i have to render it on the time-line to view it. Is there a way around this?

That's because your sequence settings don't match the footage in your timeline.
This is covered in your FCP manual, BTW. |
