Sony HDR-SR11, FCE & MTS files: will they talk to each other?
I used a borrowed Sony HDR-SR11 for B roll and now I'm finding that it has compatibility issues with FCE. To complicate matters I had to return the camera to its owner so all I have is a number of MTS files.
How do I import the MTS file into FCE?

First, the FCE has to be the latest version (or 4.1, I believe, as I don't have it anymore). File import from the camera is done via the LOG AND TRANSFER window as you cannot directly import the .mts files from the camera. The L&T functionality of FCE will then convert every .mts file from either the hard disk or Memory Stick in the camera on import to Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) format. Once these AIC clips are shown in the browser window, you can edit them like others you've done with FCE.

Or
If you don't have the camera, you have to convert the MTS files to AIC. Several programs will do this. A free one in Mpeg Streamclip.
