Sync with Sound
PLease explain here or by e-mail how to sync sound recorded to a DAt or other format to video from cameras like Xl1 and Panasonic DVX 100a.
How does drop frame and non-drop frame modes effect sync? It seems like the sound track is non-drop frame and the video is drop frame so the we are out of sysnc after a few minutes and after a three hour concert the loss of sync is about 3 seconds or so. We used a time code slate, recorded the sound to a hard drive system. How can I make this work with out cutting and hand syncing hundreds of times?

Generally, I've had to do the "sync by hand" method you're talking about for the beginning track and after that I've been fine. Other times I've had to do the whole thing by hand, but that's because the camera was not rolling sometimes when the DAT was rolling, but I don't know if you had that problem. If I record from a DAT though, I digitize my files into Nuendo at 29.97 and then move them over to FCP to sync. I don't know if that helps at all.
