Can Macbook use an iMac screen?
Hi
Does anyone know if you can hook up a macbook/macbookpro to an iMac 24 or 27" so that you can use the iMac screen for editing with FCP? Thanks |

I believe the new iMac's can be used as external screens on Macbook Pros, I have certainly heard people mention this about the 27inch model.
Not sure if this is the case with regular Macbooks though, would probably depend on the model/graphics cards.

Only the 27" iMac can be used as a seperate screen, the 21" NOT.
I don't know if you need a newer Macbook Pro or not. (I don't know what's the current state with mini displayport adapters) |

if you don't have directly compatible hardware then you can use ScreenRecycler to make use of the extra screen although with obvious limitations

thanks all. i will also ask the genius bar at apple shop and post back. but it seems that given a 30" cinema display is £1200, then spending a little more for a 27" iMac (£1300) seems good value for money! I can hook my MBP up to the larger display and get a 2nd processor. eg, render on the iMac whilst carrying on working on the MBPro using the bigger display.
