MTS to FCP workflow options....
Hey guys, Ive got a heap of old files from my PC that are MTS, M2T, AVCHD etc.
What is the best way to get them into FCP? Folder structure is long gone, so Log and transfer wont work, yeah? Ive done a couple into Prores, but a 2 gb file ends up 14gb, and takes ages. Is there a better way?

Look at mpeg-streamclip, many people use it for cross platform conversions and its free!

I've heard that FCP 7 can import .mts files directly. Is there any truth to that?

You can do it in FCP 7, but you have to download the Sony plugin for it to work.

Do not import, use the log and transfer.

I use Log and Transfer but when I select the file with the .mts files it gives me a warning message that the file contains unsupported media.

When I connect my Sony CX550V to my Mac, It opens automatic when I use the log and transfer. Are you opening the file from the camera or from a folder? If its already in your system you have to use Mpeg Streamclip or ClipWrap conversion, before importing it.

Gotcha. I have a Canon Vixia HFS100. It also records in .mts format.

toast 10 works with pure mts files. L&T in FCP requires the folder structure be in tact.

so, uhm, just to clarify,
Can you use MTS files WITHOUT the folder structure, and WITHOUT transcoding with this plug in?
