Final Cut Pro 7 Compatibility with Final Cut Pro 6
I'm considering purchasing Final Cut Studio 3, however I transfer projects quite often between my machine and and my work machine that is currently running Final Cut Studio 2.
What are the issues with this.. is it possible to save projects in a format that both packages can read or once you've upgraded to Studio 3 thats it, no going back? Thanks James |

That's not true. I go from FCP 7 at home to FCP 6. In FCP 7 export an XML of your timeline. This will open in FCP 6 and it will work. This works in FCP 6.0.4

An XML transfer is not the same as a self-contained project which holds all the filters and effects, and not all FX transfer between the versions.
If basic cuts/edits/rolls are all you need in the transfer then yes, and XML file transfer works not only across differing versions of FCP but also cross-platform and OS. |
