Looking For A Great Vignette Filter
I'm currently using a free vignette filter plug-in for Final Cut, but on clips with mostly uncluttered backgrounds (like a clear sky or a plain wall) the filter leaves horrible looking bands. They're so bad, I cannot use the filter on these clips.
As I've come to incorporate this type of filter into more of my work, I now need something that looks great regardless of the background (so I imagine it will need some dithering) and will buy a bundle of filters if necessary. Of course, I will want the ability to fine tune the eccentricity, size, location, softness, opacity, etc...all the usual stuff. Any suggestions? Alec Moreno http://www.1Day1ShotProductions.com |

Alec, you probably don't want to hear this but if you are using FCS2 or FCS3 you already own probably the best application for creating vignettes available, Color.
Inside the secondary room you can choose between a circle, square or custome shape, all infinitely adjustable and animateable. You can track motion and attach the vignette to the tracking data. There's a bit of a learning curve but you can really get up to speed fairly quickly and Color can make a huge difference. I think its the best application in the suite. If you haven't had the chance, its really worth a look. Its worth it for what you can do with vignettes. |

Magic Bullet Looks has a nice vignette Alec ... but more to the point, you mention you are currently using a filter bit not what that filter is.
There are so many free vignette filters out there its hard to know where to begin ... heres a quick list of the most obvious I can think of Marcus Herrick has one: haiku Alex Gollner has one: Final Cut: Free Vignette filter alex4d: Editing organazized Luca Bono offers one: New Page 1 heck even I have one that can be used for vignettes: http://web.me.com/andymees/Free_and_...on_Blur_3.html |

Thanks for the heads up Chuck, but no, I don't have Color. It'll have to be a plug-in.
I just checked the info on mine, and it happens to be Marcus Herrick's Haiku. I'll try out yours and the others you mentioned Andy. Free is good, but not at all necessary. MB will however be a last resort. Thanks. Alec http://www.1Day1ShotProductions.com |

Alec,
Check out the vignette and other filters in Fx Factory; some of the most usable filters in the industry are in that package at a price that can't be beat. http://www.noiseindustries.com/fxfactory/ |
