Recording onto XL2 from FCP4.5HD

Is it possible to upload footage from FCP on a Mac into the XL2?
The XL2 says it can record from external dgital sources and I'm familiar with Edit to Tape/Print to Video using a deck in FCP, but trying this with the XL2 in VCR mode didn't work.
Anyone tried this? Have I missed something simple?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard DVInfo.net Chris! I hope someone here can
help you out, I'm not on the Mac platform so I'm not one of them.

Did you get an error message when you tried the export? Can
you describe a bit what happened?

Rob, all that happened was nothing! The timeline played out on the Mac but nothing was recorded onto the camera.

FCP HD

First up if it aint playing through the EVF then nothing will go to tape. Hit the 'refresh audio AV devices" in the 'view menu' to make sure the XL2 is being picked up.

Also make sure the settings in the 'audio video settings' option box or all on Firewire Pal for both audio and video.

Finally make sure the video out is on 'all frames'

Just tested the XL2 with FCP HD 4.5 and it works fine on a fully updated Panther system although using it as a deck is probably not a very good idea.

Re: Recording onto XL2 from FCP4.5HD

Chris,
Any luck on your end getting your xl2 to print to video with FCP? I'm not using the HD version, but FCP4. and having the same problem as you. I just get a blue screen on my XL2 in VCR mode. Even going through Final Cut Pro settings, I can't figure it out. My intention is actaully to buy a miniDV deck to burn to tape, but I wanted to at least give the XL2 a try with Final Cut. I don't have any problems with my Digital 8 Sony deck or Sony Digital8 Camera printing to tape...

Joe

HD version of FCP is a free upgrade, if your having issues with the XL2 then go get it, it's free!

I just got an XL2 and FCP HD but am still reading instruction manuals. One thing comes to mind is the little (almost hidden) switch than selects mini or BNC connector. That would be too simple to even mention, but just in case...
