Looking for an MPEG2 Transport Stream encoder

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for an MPEG2 Transport Stream encoder to encode video with the flexibility I find in Compressor 3.5. I use Compressor at my job but when our encoding guys receive the file (which I manually re-name from .m2t to .mpg), their Vela system freezes the video.

Now what's really odd is that the freeze happens at the last frame or so of actual video. I always have about 3 seconds of black at the end, but somehow the Vela freezes on the last frame or so of actual video. I don't know if Compressor is adding a key frame at 30 seconds or what, hence my looking for a different encoder that can create M2Ts.

Thanks!

Heath

Best software-based encoder for the Mac, hands down:

Encoding - Episode Encoder Product Details ? Telestream

We've been using the Pro version for 3 years now; far superior results and up to 5x faster than Compressor (depending on machine and codec).

Robert,

Thanks very much! I found a lot of encoders that can convert FROM M2T, not to it. Those that can do it in HD only, and I need SD.

I'll take a look.

Heath. Have you tried the latest version of compressor? Just turn on the "transport stream" option. This is how I encode all my stuff for PS3 playback. Don't know about Vela. You can also filter out markers that might be causing you problems.
As an aside it looks like FCS3 now supports 4:2:2 encoding of mpeg2. Cool.

In the interest of finding free solutions before purchasing Episode you could also resave your m2t out of Mpeg Streamclip, which uses the .ts extension. You could also give ffmpegX a try.

Tim,

Yes I have. But there's just a bizarre problem that I'm trying to get around.
