Slow/Fast Motion Problem

Is this a bug, or is one of my settings or so wrong?

I'm on FCP 7 and if I have a clip that I cut in two on the timeline, then take the first piece and change the speed (to fastmotion or slowmotion), it speeds up, but it also changes the out-point so that the length of the clip is still as long as before, it's just is faster.
I want my out point to stay the same.

Anyone?

Thanks,
