Encore and Premiere CS3 hanging while opening
I have a serious serious problem which started but hours ago. Whenever I try opening Premiere or Encore on my Mac they just hang while opening ANY project file, except they seem to be able to make a new file. They start loading the project and then just hang, with the colored wheel staying on screen until Force Quit is used. I have months of work done on this project and am literally 2-3 days away from completion. I need some serious help on getting this resolved before I lose my mind and seriously contemplate quitting film altogether.
I believe I have 3 gigs of ram, 2 x 2.66 Ghz dual core Intel xeon and CS3

Nathan,
This type of behavior - regardless of the applications involved - is almost always the result of the OS needing a good tuneup and clean-out of old cache files. Especially for Adobe apps which have a tendency to overfill their default cache locations doing routine maintenance of your main edit system is crucial for reliable stability. DO NOT manually delete Adobe cache files; sometimes you'll inadvertently delete your application preferences depending on what type of install routine you used. In these situations I always give the same advice - and unless you've got a serious directory problem that only DiskWarrior can fix this will get you back in business in less than 15 minutes: 1. Save your progress in it's current state - if you're able to access that project at all. 2. Download and run Onyx for Mac (free app) and run ALL of it's cleaning and maintenance routines. Some take time don't get freaked out if it doesn't look like it's doing anything and just be patient. You can also use the "Automation" option and let it run all the routines in sequence automatically (see pic). 3. Once you've run all the cleaning routines and reboot one time, flash your PRAM on the machine by holding down the OPTION-COMMAND-P-R keys during boot-up: Keep holding them down constantly while the machine reboots itself at least twice. Try getting back to work. Let us know how things turn out. |
