set up problem

Hi all.

I'm using an iMac , FCP3 and a sony monitor using a TRV19 as a pass through. (Comp to cam via firewire and cam to monitor via s-video.)

My roblem is.. I can't get sound to play on the computer (or the monitor) but only on the camera.
If possible I'd like to have my computer speakers "do the talking.."

I've been all over the preferences without having found any solution.

A little help please?

Thanks.

I have the same issue sometimes. What i have found is for some reason it only sends the sound down the firewire and i have to reboot to get the sound back into the MAC's speakers. It normally happens when i plug the camera into the computer after its booted up. Try the reboot with the FW in the camera already.

Oh you will not get any sound out of the monitor using only the S Video connection. Thats just a video signal. You would need to use the AV/Vid out with the RCA adapters. Just dont plug in the video from that wire.

Oh, nice tip. I'll try it out.
Do you use FCP3 or 4? (Meaning is it a FCP3 bug??)

About the s-video could I have sworn that it was a video cable only. But somebody insisted so much that it carried both signals that I fended up believing him..

Thanks!

S-video cables only carry video, no audio.

You can press Apple + F12 to switch back and forth between DV output and monitor (computer) output. That won't really help ya here, but it is a handy tip so you don't have to reboot.

It's correct in operation. The same device that produces the pictures should produce the audio so that they remain in sync. If you're monitoring out of firewire, then that's where the audio should also go, so that the slight delay on the video is matched by the audio.

But when I play I have three identical screens.. (on the computer, monitor and the cam..) I see your point though. There's nothing to do then?

What comes out of firewire is right. Use that as your reference. Your computer will display video wrong. It's just that's the way it works.
