mp3 files not cooperating
This should be SUCH a simple thing...
I import an mp3 file into Final Cut, it appears in the browser just fine. I try to move the mp3 into the bin I have created for audio files- and the thing doesn't want to move! I checked the other items in my browser, and they don't want to move either! I know it's not my mouse, because I can click on each item, and double click it to display in the viewer. So why can't I drag and drop anymore???

Don't use mp3 files in FCP. Convert them to AIFF or WAV first.

David is right: FCP HATES mp3's. I'd suggest AIFF's at the appropriate bit depth and data rate for your project (ie. 48KHz/16 bit for MOST applications)

So this is really not about mp3 files, it's about the drag and drop function for any file in your browser is not working, right?
I find little hangups in some FCP functions once in a while, which are usually fixed by saving everything and either restarting fcp or rebooting altogether, which probably is too simple an answer or you would have discovered it. I can't replicate the problem but perhaps we can steer the thread to the difficulty at hand....Battle Vaughan/miamiherald.com video team |

I've been able to use mp3's just fine, before. I've found FCP6 will tolerate them, but considering that you often need to render audio before getting realtime playback, it's easier to just open the mp3 in Quicktime Player and do a quick export to a 48/16 AIFF.
Maybe I haven't had problems because I always copied the mp3 into my project directory first. Perhaps an mp3 that's managed by iTunes would have problems if left in your iTunes music folder? |

Well after a save and a reboot everything worked fine. Still don't know what was causing the problem. The only reason I was importing mp3 files was to send to Soundtrack Pro for resampling and then saving as aif/wav. No issues with the audio, just the browser window.
