EX1 and MX02 Workflow?
Hi,
I just got an MX02 with the intention of using it to do a real-time HD-SDI capture into Final Cut Pro, from the EX1 in a studio environment. I want to capture 1080 24p ideally, and the footage will be edited in Final Cut Pro. There seems to be numerous workflow options and it's confusing. So far I haven't been able to do this kind of live capturing, so I just wondered if anyone has a recommended (and detailed) workflow they can share? Also, has anyone produced any kind of guide or video tutorials for the EX1 and MX02 combination? I imagine that many others are using these two items together. Regards Andrew |

Hello,
I have used my MXO2 in a studio with a JVC HD100u, Sony Ex1 and a Panasonic HVX200p to capture live to disk. The MXO2 unit worked flawlessly and was very simple to set up. 1. Connect the MXO2 to your MacBook Pro, connect a hard drive (I used a CalDigit FireWire VR 2TB at RAID 0 attached via FW800), boot up the computer. 2. Go to the OSX system preferences menu and find the MXO2 utility. Go to the A/V input menu and change the source to the desired connection. I was using a component connection, so I selected "component" in the video drop down and Analog balanced XLR from the audio menu drop down. You may also need to visit the output menu if you're monitoring from the MXO2 at the same time. I was monitoring with a Panasonic 17" via a component connection. 3. Once the MXO2 utility is set, start up and load a Final Cut Pro project. Go to "Easy Setup" in the FCP menu and select an MXO preset from the "Use" drop down menu. I used the ProRes (145mbps) MXO2 preset for the EX1 and JVC cameras and the DVCPro HD setup for the HVX200p. 4. Connect the camera and audio source to the input on the MXO2. 5. Connect a monitor to the correct output. 6. In FCP, hit command 8 to bring up the capture window. Add log information for the shot and hit the "capture now" button to start recording. You may also need to set the device control to "non-controllable device," although the MXO2 setting has worked for me. If you run into problems, check the MXO2 utility in the system preferences first. Make sure the input and output menus are set to receive and send the correction connections. I have had no trouble getting the MXO2 to work properly as long as all the settings match. I've really enjoyed using this box. Good luck, Cale |
