I'm new to FCE, too, but 'old' ti iMovie. My question would be why bring iMovie into the workflow at all? I intend to try going to a QT Movie and then import that into iDVD.

Like Rick said, I am not clear why you move from FCE into iMovie, before going into iDVD. iMovie is not exactly nice to interlaced video, so I would skip that step. Output from FCE using "QuickTime Movie" export, to some desirable location. This will generate one "sequence".mov file per sequence. Then get into iDVD, select menu type and use the "sequence".mov files to generate your DVD. I have never had a quality issue using this flow (unless of course the footage had quality problems to begin with).

Just open your disc directory (separate window), find the proper "sequence".mov file(s) and drag it (them) onto the iDVD main pane. It should show there as selectable item. You can then preview the disc.
