embaressed to ask but
I need help on a very elementary level.
I lost my Medea drive. Recaptured audio/video to a firewire drive. capture and edit worked great . finished timeline plays back with stutter. thought to copy the media to the almost empty Mac 2 drive (g-4 dual 1.25) to speed up render, did that. still seems plays back from the firewire drive. at least that what i am assuming from the blinking light. and still stutters what did i not do? my thought was that the mac 2 drive could render much faster that the 120gb firewiredrive. any thoughts on how to dump to Beta w/out the stutter. I know a lot of you guys work without RAID arrays. what am I missing? thanks |

Gary,
Did it stutter after you captured it the first time? Could it be something to do with the capturing? Maybe try and recapture again? Also, maybe zoom way in (on the timeline) and make sure there is nothing right at the beginning interferring with the opening clip (I've had that happen before and there was a weird layer that I never deleted nor saw). Is the firewire drive almost full when you captured and edited on that? If so, that may also be a culpret. Full drives do weird things. Just some thoughts... Clay

capture went fine
all clips are nice and clean, did zoom timeline to check every edit seam. just seems like not enough horsepower to play the timeline cleanly. plenty of room of the firewire drive and the 2nd mac drive. the finished piece is less that 4 minutes long. im stuck. |

Eject or disconnect the FireWire drive at startup and see what drive your project is playing from. You may need to use the media manager to reconnect the new media files (on your Mac 2 HD) to your project and sequences.

well, ejecting the fire wire drive was enlighting.
i saw what was not on the Mac2. not enough space on mac 2 to move all the firewire stuff over i have only jacked with media manager once with horrific results, so im not gonna try again with a finished project perhaps the medea drive will just start working again. i still dont know why either firewire or mac drives it wont render fast enough. |

I would not recommend using media manager to move media on a finished or near finished project. Do you have any other devices plugged into the FireWire ports or drives? How much ram is on your system, Gary?

well,
problem sloved this morning. after dismounting and re-mounting the firewire drive as suggested. I then completely shut down the system and left for the day. this morning the Medea pops up, ready to work. After 4 days of every trick i could think of. heres hoping i get it all done before it disappears again. |

Glad it all worked out for you Gary. If the Medea drives disappear again post and lets try to figure out what is happening. Try to remember what you were doing when the disappeared etc. I hope you get your project done.

thanks for your suggestions.
whatever the reason, I think ejecting the drive as you suggested worked. |
