PowerBook + HDV + 24" secondary display?
Hi all,
Long time lurker, absolutely great site! I'm currently editing (no rendering or encoding) 1080i HDV from both a Sony HVR-A1E and a Canon HV30... on a PowerBook G4 with 1.67 cpu and 1.5GB of RAM. I can cut and arrange footage quite happily on this machine, I have an 8-Core Mac Pro at work for the heavy work. Now, I'm still working on the PowerBook's 15" display. I was hoping to purchase a 24" monitor to aid my home workflow. I know the PowerBook can output to a 30" Apple Cinema display, but can it also power a display (24") and the HDV content running on the new display? The capture scratch, is running on a 500GB LaCie with FW800 Is the PowerBook powerful enough to output HDV video on a secondary 24" display, and using the 15" PowerBook display as the source monitor? Hope this is clear? |

I have the exact same arrangement, accept I think I have 2gb of RAM. I went for a 22" hewlett-packard hew2207h for $279, I use this as a source monitor and the powerbook as a second display -which I never even look at. ...So I guess I don't know the answer to your question, but this definitely works, and personally the screen feels plenty big. It attaches with an HDMI cable and I already owned a dvi to HDMI. I figure it will have more uses in the future too since it has an HDMI hook up.
