This question is similar to what I am wondering. On my system I only have iMovie but it doesn't support 24p. I was wondering if Final Cut Xpress will support 24p and if it is also capable of removing pulldown.

Thanks!
-Terry.

No 24p support in FCE directly. But which camera are we talking about?

Yeah 24p with it's pulldown = standard DV-NTSC 60i signal. So no problem in FCE. With FCP you can remove the pulldown and edit at true 23.98 for higher image quality. But not a night and day difference. I explain all in my DVX100 DVD btw. :)

Yeah I'd imagine that would come in as 1080/60i compliant HDV so you should be ok in FCE.

So since the HV20/30 captures to tape 18 progressive and 12 interlace in succesion in a 60i stream it is thus not "true" 24p which FCE can support? Otherwise FCE cannot support 24p?

Terry
That is correct. It looks like 24p but it's not going to be edited at 23.98 which is what 'true 24p' is. For true 24p editing, you require Final Cut Pro, not FCE.

Unless I can find an alternative program to remove pulldown? Then I can use that footage in FCE or iMovie to edit 'true 24p'? Trust me i'd love to get Final Cut Studio 2 or Pro but the program alone costs more than the budget for my film.

Nope- even if you could remove the pulldown FCE won't edit at 23.98. Cannot be done without FCP. Sorry.
