Import size problems

I have a canon xh-a1 which it says records at 1440x1080 so wouldn't I want to import my footage at the same size not 1920x1080 or does it matter. Im starting to use apple prores and I pick the 1440x1080 apple prores but when I go to capture scratch and right click on a file it says its 1920x1080. Is this alright if it is doing this, or should I try to figure it out and fix it. Also I compared a 1440x1080 and 1920x1080 clip and there was barely a difference in size, can anybody explain this?

It's alright...

It's normal. 1440X1080 aspect ratio is non-square pixels recorded by HDV cameras. Software expands them to display properly as 1920X1080.

Here's another previous thread, with an embedded link to another previous thread that explains it better.
