Calibrated Codec issue

Ok, so I downloaded the Calibrated {Q} DVCProHD - Leopard codec from apple and now it is giving me a headache.

When I export out of FCP it layers 7 gray bars over the video. So I deleted it out of applications, emptied the trash and restarted the machine. It is still doing it. Below is a screencap of the viewer window and an exported JPG from the original mov file.

And not only is it a demo, but there is a warning that you should NOT install it on an FCP machine (and now you can see why) ... and indeed why would you, as you already have the codecs it provides as part of FCP.

All's well that ends well.

If its not supposed to be on a Mac then why is it on the Apple website? Shouldn't it be on the Microsoft website?

Actually, the Calibrated DVCPRO HD Decode does have a Mac version but on their website it says that "it is not for use when FCP is installed." The other Andy is right in the sense that the DVCPRO HD codec is licensed from Panasonic by Apple and included with Final Cut Pro. There must be some conflict when you try to use the Calibrated Decode while FCP is installed. The 7 gray bars are part of the demo watermark.

If you have FCP, you probably want to use Calibrated Software's MXF import or DVFilm Raylight for Mac which both offer an easier MXF workflow for using Panasonic P2 instead FCP's log and transfer. You can download demos for both for the websites.

Best,
Andy
