using footage captured to a pc on a mac
hi there
i'm currently using premiere on a windows box for my sins, and have a case in to transfer over to FCP and a lovely mac tower. is my existing footage going to travel ok or will i have to recapture it onto the mac. i am doing a cross platform upgrade with the adobe stuff so that i can keep after effects and was assured that the old prem projects will open and run fine on the mac, but if i copy a .AVI over to my imac it corrupts. any thoughts would be most appreciated P |

Hi
I have about 25 hours of AVI files captured with Sony Vegas that work perfect with FCP. I did for fun a test with AVI captured with an old version of Ulead Videstudio and that did not work, FCP crashed. If your files do not work, then I would give Mpeg Streamclip a test. You can Batch convert files in that program into something FCP can handle. I hope this helps you Cheers Hans

Also greatly depends on which camera and how you're editing- i.e. transcode or native. In general I'd suggest recapturing all of the footage on the Mac and reuse the EDL. That way you maintain best possible image quality. Because AVI to MOV for example looks like heck most typically.
