MXO with non-standard 4:3 format
Just setup a new system here with a Matrox MXO, which is great. But I'm having an issue with my current large FCP project. I'm editing video which will be used on Catalyst media servers for projection on some "big iron" DLP machines (two 10,000 lumen and one 20,000 lumen projectors). For a variety of reasons, I need to use 4:3 1024x768 Photo JPEG sequences.
These work fine in FCP, but I can't find any options with the Matrox which will display them at both full resolution and in the correct aspect ratio. I'm using an Apple 23" Cinema Display connected to the MXO. There isn't any appropriate profile for the MXO which works with this format. All of the high resolution settings stretch the video into 16:9 on my screen, and choosing 4:3 DV not only destroys all the detail in the images, but also creates a lot of nasty artifacts. It's odd, because if I choose the regular Apple Digital Cinema Desktop full screen video setting, when I pause the timeline it is properly displayed on the external monitor. But when I hit play, it stretches to 16:9. Any ideas? Is there some way to create my own MXO profile that will show me correctly proportioned 4:3 at the full 1024x768 resolution? |
