Do I just need to copy *.MTS files to archive?

I recently purchased a Sony HDR-TG1, and there are a lot of files on the camera. To archive/backup files - can I just copy the .MTS files?

On an earlier post (AVCHD, iMovie, and big uncompressed video files - The Digital Video Information Network), I was pointed at Voltaic, a utility for converting from AVCHD to AIC (for iMovie). Their web site seemed to imply that the MTS file was sufficient, but I'd prefer additional verification.

Here's the rough file layout on the camera:
- AVCHD
-- BDMV
-- CLIPINF
---*.CPI
-- INDEX.BDM
-- MOVIEOBJ.BDM
-- PLAYLIST
--- 00000.MPL
-- STREAM
---*.MTS
